INSTRMNTS is an exhibition where the visitor is encouraged to actively engage and interact with the instruments on display. The exhibition is meant to turn the gallery into a performance space and the visitors into performers. The works include a collection of over fourty unique musical instruments, sound devices and sound installations.
HOW DOES IT WORK
In twenty years of INSTRMNTS exhibitions we have captured visitors spontaneously playing the instruments available throughout the whole exhibit. In same cases visitors are taking part in fun workshops where everyone gets a chance to play.
A DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT
Lots of things happen in an INSTRMNTS exhibition. People playing and dancing, scheduled performances, workshops, informal talks and games deliver an innovative and dynamic program of activities for the visitors.
We bring in interactive devices such as tablets mounted on metal structures to allow the visitors to navigate the exhibition and learn more about each instrument’s story.
We are committed to inspiring audiences from all backgrounds by engaging them in a collective experience with making music. Visitors gravitate around the instruments, appreciating their design and experimenting with their sounds.
DESIGN AS A VARIABLE
Our instruments are in constant development with designs inspired by nature. We make use of current digital fabrication technologies while handcrafting each instrument with great care and passion.
Regarding the questionnaires given to the teachers at the end of the visits, we verified that all visitors rated the exhibition as 5 (maximum value).
INNOVATION IN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
The current digital technologies allow us complete freedom in designing and developing new musical instruments. We want these instruments to have the ability to be played by more than one player so that they can make some music together.
PLANETS AND STARS
A unique design, Sturn is inspired by the rings of Saturn and demonstrates the concept of instruments that respond directly to the musical lexicon chosen by the composer. It is also part of a series of instruments that, like Acrux or Epsylon Lyrae, use geometries related to orbits of planets or stars.
Acruxson, a sound installation composed of the current family of acruxes, is coupled with acrux seasons, an app based on the acrux and built by pika, a team of developers, in collaboration with school children from Wales, UK.
READY TO INSTALL
We offer an exhibition ready to be shipped in crates with everything from stands, some metal dividers with screens, lighting and sound equipment for the installations. It takes one to two days to set it all up.
We are prepared to design the whole layout for an INSTRMNTS exhibition using a 3D model of the gallery space with animations and graphics that we can supply to the promoter for a better visualisation of how the exhibition will look like.
WE SHIP IT EVERYWHERE
The INSTRMNTS exhibition has been installed in many parts of the world and we have experience in dealing with shipments in Europe, Africa, North and South America.
